Soundscapes
Soundscapes are ‘spontaneous compositions’ that use sound and music to create the atmosphere of a story being told, or a scene. Sounds can be human made noises, conventional and non-conventional musical instrument sounds, or created sound effects. The ‘composition’ sounds like what is happening (e.g. a mouthpiece for a car horn), or imply a mood (e.g. scary).
Sadly, my inspiration of my decades long journey into the ways of developing curriculum around ‘sound expression’ through soundscapes, passed away this week. Mr. R. Murray Schafer - Vale to a true pioneer of sonic exploration and expression in music learning.
