Pre-Concert.

Having a good sounding ensemble is a team effort. Each Band Member is expected to do their part to make each performance a success.

Getting ready for the performance includes:

  • Preparing Concert Attire

  • Home Practice or Scheduling a Tutorial

  • Being prepared with music, pencil, instrument and accessories.

In Pre-Concert Rehearsals, aim to use the time efficiently, pay attention, and be a good team member.

The rehearsals and performance will be live, but preparation leading up to the concert will continue on Zoom.

Concert Attire

A Band Mom found shoes these Online. Such shoes are ideal.

Concert attire consists of white on top, black on bottom.
Girls can wear knee length or longer black skirts or dress pants and black shoes.
Boys must wear black pants (no jeans), black socks, and black shoes. White collared shirts are preferred on top. No T-shirts are allowed.
Adhering to this dress code gives a professional look to our band.

A Band Mom took a photo of her daughter ready for a concert and has kindly agreed to let me share it. This is a lovely concert attire example. No need to replicate exactly, but just to give you an idea if this is your first band concert.

Audience Seats

Guest seating is assigned on a first-come-first-serve basis. There is a limit of two adult guests per student. Guests without a reservation will not be able to attend the concert. Please reserve your seats via this Sign-Up Form, Please direct questions about the reserved seating to the Upper Primary Administration.

While on campus, all guests will have their temperature checked, must keep a mask on at all times, and sit in designated seats and spaces. Your designated seat will be shared with you via email in advance of the performance.

Home Learning Days

A small number of students will be affected by the rehearsals or concert being held on days that coincide with the UP Home Learning Days (absent from school classes). Please check if your child is affected by this. If possible, please try to attend the rehearsal, and consider arriving at the school after 2:20pm, as the after school buses will be cleared by that time. Students should go directly to the 4th floor CAFETERIA (note: update)

Band Goal Setting - Practice Makes Progress

Please continue to set personal practice goals at home. At the rehearsal, the Group Goals are to:

  • Collaborate effectively in a large ensemble to prepare the concert material.

  • Demonstrate appropriate behaviour at the rehearsal as a Team Member (watching, listening, raising had for music related questions only*)

* It's exciting to perform, and there might be a lot of questions about dress, food, seats etc .... but, please let's use the rehearsal time effectively.

Details about the rehearsal schedule will be posted for students in the rehearsal venue.

Offer & Appreciate Rehearsal Car Pool

The change to the 'Live' Rehearsal Schedule for the concerts, with a 5:00pm pickup at the UP, impacts some Band families in different ways. To facilitate the participation of the whole band team (and, to reduce car use, 'live' connections with other band members, and to help out), please consider signing up for a Band Car Pool.

If you can offer a car pool or appreciate a car pool for the rehearsals below - please use this form for providing relevant information.
